Cuba 2017 Program Costs

Penn State Undergraduate Students

(Courses must be scheduled sequentially and as a unit)

BIOL 496 or SUST 495; late spring, 2017; 3 credits

Cost: Students who are enrolled for 12 or more credits in the spring semester can add this online course for no additional tuition cost.

BIOL 496 or SUST 495; July 7-15, 2017; 1 credit

Cost: $3,250 (practicum) plus one-credit tuition of $584 (in state) and $899 (out of state); plus mandatory fee of ($63) for information technology and activity fees.

Penn State Graduate Students

(Courses must be scheduled sequentially and as a unit)

BIOL 496 or SUST 495; late spring, 2017; 3 credits

Cost: Students who are enrolled for 12 or more credits in the spring semester can add this online course for no additional tuition cost.

BIOL 496 or SUST 495; July 7-15, 2017; 1 credit

Cost: $3,250 (practicum) plus one-credit tuition of $868 (in state) and $1,022 (out of state); plus mandatory fee of ($63) for information technology and activity fees.

In-service Teachers

Cost: $3,500 (online pre-trip assignments and field practicum; professional development activities). Tuition credits (graduate or CEUs) are extra.*

*Teachers may gain either graduate credits or CEU hours. All teacher participates must be registered for either one or the other.  Please apply!

Graduate credits: Tuition based on number of graduate credits desired, 4 max @ $483/graduate credit [3 credits for Biology 496 or SUST 495 and 1 credit for Biology 496 or SUST 495).

PSU Student Scholarship Information

All PSU undergraduate students who apply for the CHANCE 2017 Cuba program should apply immediately for the competitive Pennsylvania Commonwealth Education Abroad Scholarship AND Africa and Latin America Grant-in-Aid scholarship provided by the Penn State Office of International Programs (DUE MARCH 15, 2017). What is Included in the Trip (practicum) Cost

All instruction and guide services; all meals and lodging as stated in the itinerary; all ground, water and air transportation within Cuba; all entrance fees to National Parks and other sites; research and conservation activities; cultural activities; and, round-trip international airfare.

What is Not Included in the Trip (practicum) Cost

Passport fees; Penn State mandatory HTH Worldwide Study Abroad insurance (~$2.00/day); gratuities to guides, drivers, or transfer personnel; transportation to-and-from Newark International Airport, Pennsylvania; luggage fees; laundry; telephone calls; and, any other expenses of a personal nature.

Deposit Information

Penn State student participants must be enrolled as full-time students. The application process officially begins on February 10, 2017. Deadline for student registration is April 10, 2017. A $500 deposit is required upon acceptance into this course. Balance due by June 1, 2017. The $500 deposit is non-refundable. Space is limited and will be assigned on an academic selection basis (GPA, reflective essay, and letter of recommendation).
